Need your opinion on how Diablo 2 holds up...?

I just watched the gameplay footage for Diablo 3, and I am stoked, but I can't wait until next year some time... I know people loved Diablo 2, but does it hold up now, 7 years after it came out? I was thinking about running out and getting it, just to "prepare" for Diablo 3... and perhaps to have another game to play online with a couple friends...

oh man dont do it. While i loved Diablo 2 when it first came out, it really is a crapfest game now that i think about it. It looks pretty cool, but you kind of grow out of it when its the same mission, just with different monsters.

Oh and don't even think about trying diablo 1 if you haven't played it yet. Not bad for a game that old, but nowadays, itll make your eyes bleed.

The only plus thing was it was free to play online.

  • Yeah. I got all excited thinking I’d have a decent old school style RPG on my PS3. No such luck.

I've played 2 of the three games you mentioned (FFxlll and darksiders) and although they put up a challenge at some points in the game, they weren't the hardest game i've ever played. I think that once they allowed games the ability to "save" a game, they have made games a bit harder for the gamers, which is fine because if you pay 60 bucks for a game and it's so easy that you beat it in 3 hours, your going to be pissed. plus, there's some sense of pride once you beat a game that has a record of being hard. once i beat ninja gaiden on the xbox and when back to gamestop for another game, they looked at me as if i was unhuman and wanted to hear my testimony on how i did it. to a gamer that has been playing games for years, were just glad that we don't have to leave the system on overnight to save our spot in the game anymore. beating ghouls n' ghost only to find out that you have to beat in again and find the princess's ring if hard. darksiders is a walk in the park compared to that.

Good points. I do think Oblivion does a better job of dealing with cause and effect. I also like that the “gods” are watching and know when you've turned into a scumbucket. And frankly, Fallout feels a lot smaller/shorter.

I would love to see a horror RPG with the elements you discussed. Could you picture Silent Hill or Resident Evil as a Fallout 3 style Rpg?
