Diablo Dsl

i want a good gaming computer, and a lag question?
i really dont know much about computers so i need some advice. i hear alien is one of the best computers out there, however i was looking at some of the prices and 3000 dollars is just insane for something i want to use just to play games online. so what is the best gaming computer i can get at something around 1500-2000 dollars.
also will a better computer cure my lag? i just got a standard compaq computer and i often get lag when i enter the cities.
i have DSL(not sure which verizon and i guess standard speed?) what can i do to eliminate as much lag as possible. i can never really win at PVP unless its somewhere outside of town where i dont get much lag.
one last thing, what is better for gaming a laptop or desktop? does it matter?
(games owned,Diablo 2, Star wars Galaxies, RF Online, Guild Wars.)
Desktops are by far better for gaming than laptops. They is also considerably cheaper for a computer that will play games well.
Your best bet would be to actually have one custom built for you by a local computer shop.
Either that or build one yourself, it is really not as hard as it seems.
Here are links to Tom's hardwares guides on how to do it yourself. A lot of reading, but part 3 is where they show you how to put it together. Part 1 and 2 discusses what parts you should look at and who you should buy from.

why does my computer shut off while playing games?
my computer shuts off about every 20 minutes or so while playing runescape and diablo 2 LOD, my brother has also said when he tries to play games on cartoonnetwork and nickelodeon it shuts off too, i have a microsoft windows xp that was bought in 2002, and i also have dsl and about 20 gb of free memory , and how do i fix it ....p.s. it only started doing this a while ago, it was working 1 day and not the next
Sounds like a heat issue.
When playing games, the video adapter is working harder than when you are not playing games.
If it overheats, it will shut down.
Take the side panel off and make sure the heatsinks are not clogged with dust, and that all the fans work just fine.
