Diablo Ii Rune words 1.11b

Interesting comment here. I wonder how much this is still the case (I'm looking at Free Realms for an example of a game that seems to have been focussed grouped to death):

I believe that drops are somewhat random depending on your magic find amount. However, according to the first citation magic find (mf) doesn't affect the probability of finding runes.

I know that runes often drop from the countess at a higher rate. She is in Act one in the 5th level of the Forgotten Tower. I believe it is a quest. Apparently in hell level she will only drop up to Lo rune, though.

Also, if you do the mephisto soul stone quest (you can only do it once per level i.e. one in normal, one in nightmare, and once in hell level). This quest is in Act 4 before you get to the Chaos Sanctuary. You have a decent chance at landing some good runes during this quest. Just be careful and don't do it with someone who will steal your drops. Get strong enough and do it alone each time.

Other than that… you should just do nightmare and hell baal or mephisto runs and try to get good items for trade. Then trade for whatever runes you need. That's my advice.

You might try to get a character who can teleport in order to speed up your runs.
