It is always a good idea to find someone you trust that knows a thing or two about weed to help you since you are relatively inexperienced. However, I hope that these pointers and info that I have gathered over the years will help you out. For quality bud, there are a few things to look for: * Does it have a name? Most (not all) quality strains are named. Try to find out beforehand, and look it up on the internet. Check pictures, reviews, etc to see what the buds look like, what they feel like (dense, fluffy, crystally, full of hairs, etc), smell, high type (head [sativa], body [indica]), and other things. Don’t take one site/picture as what it is, check a few different ones to see if they are saying the same thing. * Can you smell it through the bag? Most good bud will reek through a simple plastic baggie. Some types will not smell terribly until broken up so this should be part of your research. * When you pick it up, does it stick to your fingers slightly? This is a good sign. * Does it have lots of seeds? The amount of seeds indicate grow quality. Many seeds are bad, and are most prevalent in “regos” which is low quality. You will get high if you smoke enough of it, but it is similar to drinking shitty booze instead of good stuff (bad hangover, bad high). It had me sunk into my couch like nobodies business. Now, on to quantity. Since you guys are new smokers, you will not need a lot of good weed to get you stoned. For 4, an eighth (eighter, skater, etc) which I usually find weighs between 3.2g and 3.5g depending who you buy from (I obviously don’t buy from people that short me anymore) will be more than enough. In fact, one gram (or a little more if you go for the eighter) rolled into a blunt (I prefer swisher grape, or one of the zig zag blunt wraps when I smoke blunts. If you opt for lower quality (or get grifted by someone saying it is awesome weed and it ends up being schwag, which I hope will not happen as it sucks) ganja, shoot for an eighter and put 2g in there. I noticed you said you have a bowl, so for good weed one (possibly two) bowls should do the trick, but you will probably need 3 or 4 with lower grade. As for price, this all depends on region and the person you are dealing with. I only buy dispensary-grade green so I pay a little bit of a premium. I get it for between $20 and $30 a gram, or $60 to $80 an eighth. Non-dispensary high-grade stuff is generally about $5 less, but never less than $20 a gram here. “Regos”, “Schwag” run me between $5 and $10 a gram, or $20-$30 for an eighth. Mids (not bad like regs, but not as good as dispensary weed or high-quality bud) will fall between there, usually $15-20 and $45-60. Something to be careful about, “Hydro”, “Dro”, is not a type of weed. It is a method of growing, and it is short for hydroponics. This is where the plants are not grown in soil but suspended above water with nutrients so that only the roots are in the water. This is not unique to pot growing, other plants can (and are) grown this way. The reason for it is it takes up less space than potted plants, but requires more diligent attention to ensure the plants are getting proper nutrients.
