Are there any computer games similar to Diablo 2?

I'm looking for a game similar to Diablo 2 character development wise with the slight RPG twist to it.
Doesn't have to have an online component.

Well, it depends on how in-depth you want.

Probably Dungeon Siege, Dungeon Siege 2, or if you want something a bit more lighthearted and less bloody, FATE.

What's a good online pc game for a college student (no games that charge monthly fees please)?

I'm going to college this fall and I'm looking for a good online pc game that I can play in my spare time. I've always played diablo II, but the game is now outdated and i'm looking for something good to replace it with. I want something fun, addictive, online, and I'm thinking a good rpg is the best choice

This depends on what type of games you like to play. You say you like RPGs, so that narrows it down, but there are many different styles. I will list only games which are completely free to download and play.

If you want a browser-based game that you can play from anywhere, check out Legend of the Green Dragon (LoGD). It's simple and a great time waster, and there are tons of different versions of it. They each have different features and different time periods that pass before turns refresh. There are so many versions of this game that it's useless to provide a link - just do a Google search for LoGD and pick the one that looks best. The game is also available in several different languages, so if you want extra practice with a foreign language, it's a great way to do it.

If you want something with a downloadable program, there are many options. If graphics aren't important to you, check out RPG World Online (www.rpgwo.com). The web site hasn't been updated in ages, but the game is updated regularly. The engine has some unique features that make it stand out. My one complaint about this game is the player base - many of them are very rude, but if you don't mind that, this is a fun game.

Another option is the BYOND system (www.byond.com). This system allows anyone to create their own online game using a fairly simple programming language called DM. You can choose from hundreds of games in several different genres, or if you're feeling ambitious, you can try to create your own. (Creating your own game makes for a great college project for computer-related fields.)

If you're more into the no-thinking-required hack-and-slash style of RPG gaming, you can try Maple Story. The graphics are very impressive if a bit cutesy (it is in anime style), but it can be a great time killer. Check out their web site at www.nexon.com (the site requires IE for some reason, but there is no need to worry about security on this site if you are used to using Firefox).

If none of those games work out for you, you can do what I do when I'm looking for something new - head to the Multiplayer Online Gaming Directory (mpogd.com) and see what's popular and what's new. This is where I have discovered all of the games I play now, and the list is very extensive. Unfortunately this means that there is a lot of garbage as well, but if you sift through it there is a lot of great stuff, too.

I hope this information is helpful to you. Good luck in school, and remember that your classes must always come first - if you spend too much time playing games, which is very easy to do, and your grades slip, you will deeply regret it later.

Hey guys! Looks like I’m a little late to the party. :) I have some experience with this kind of thing. I used to do a message board-style RPG in high school that I thought was tons of fun. It went something like this:Some friends and I would take suggestions for or submit ideas for a basic plot and world, then each participant would create one or more characters that would interact within that world to develop said plot. One of my favorites we worked on for a long time was a world in which vampirism was determined to be a viral condition transmitted by bodily fluid transfer (a little like The Zombie Survival Guide, if you’ve read that). A pharmaceutical company creates an antiviral treatment to combat it, and vampires enter mainstream society, but not without repercussions. I had a Catholic clinic doctor as a character, touching on religious implications of a medically legitimate vampire. Some characters interacted one-on-one within the confines of the world, while others individually explored the plot.Another site I wrote on had a very basic set of limitations and each participant had the opportunity to post their own world on a message board. Anyone could then join that story and interact with the original author to build a one-on-one, personalized story, paragraph by paragraph. This format allows more freedom for individual collaborations (oxymoronically) but leaves the message board a little hectic and unorganized.I hope this helps everyone consider the format of our little project. :D
