I'll answer your questions exactly as you have asked them being a veteran Diablo 2 player (and yes, the expansion also).

1. Is there a bank to put items in?
Yes.. it's available in every town in every "act" (the game is broken into 5 acts where you have several 'missions' to get through in order to get to the next act) and it's always the same. It'll hold quite a few items and it's free to access any time you'd like.

2. What is the fighting like?
It's a top (third person) perspective game with a click to fight interface. Basically you point at a bad guy and click either right or left mouse buttons. You can customize what the mouse buttons do based on what skills you've learned (such as casting a fireball, or just running up and popping them with your weapon, etc). It's a super-simple interface and shouldn't be hard to learn.

3. Are there lots of clothes and weapons and other items?

Literally thousands... all of the above fall off of monsters as you kill them, can be found in chests, even hidden under things you find along the way. Also it's random every time you play so you'll never see the same thing twice.

4. They have weak swords and strong swords and stluff like that with bows?

Yes.. there are varying degrees of 'power' for swords and other weapons. You may only be able to use the more powerful weapons you find after you've achieved a certain level of experience and statistic (I.E. heavy armor will require more strength than lighter armor, etc) so bear that in mind as you spend your training points to increase your stats!

5. Are there a lot of people that play online?
That depends on the time of day. Right now online play (for the Eastern US) is very laggy at night because probably TOO many people play online.. it's aggravating at times. But yes, the numbers of people that play are well into the thousands at any given time.

6. Do you think you have to beat the games before you play online?

No, you don't have to beat it before you play online. But the character you use for the single player game isn't the one you use for the online one. The Battle.net character you create is maintained online and you can only level them up while you play online. The single player character can be played online but is played in what's called "closed battle.net" where you're not able to access the same game servers as the other. THere's no difference, whatsoever, in the online vs. offline game with the exception of 'special events' that happen from time to time.

7. It is a lot like Runescape? And How different is it?
Runescape is a clunky interface with very limited options and ridiculous skills that you level up for no reason along with very (very very) dated graphics, etc.

Diablo 2 is based completely on combat and action, has decent enough graphics (also dated, but not nearly the same degree) and the game play is fast and furious. If you find the right group to play with online you can powerlevel very very quickly or you can take your time and learn every nook and cranny as your play style requires.

All in all the whole $20 you'll spend at Walmart for the "Diablo Warchest" is a bargain.. it has the original Diablo game, Diablo 2, and the expansion all in the same pack along with a big book to read on how to be good at the game.

It's much much better than Runescape.

Diablo 2 tips and tricks : Pit running how to and why :)

What's the best Diablo 2 character to play?

I define best as a hybrid of skills. I like to play characters that have a mixture of melee, magic, and healing skills OR the ability to get good items that grant the above. I have just purchased both Diablo 2 and the expansion pack. Yeah I know I'm 4 years behind but I've been a MMORPG finatic for the last few years.

I usually like playing with an Act II spear mercenary, as they give me additional auras. Although a high-level Act I Rogue merc with a good bow (elementals) can be useful at getting all those annoying flayers and fallen that bunch up and run away...

Though if you're playing as a Sorceress you may want an Act V barbarian merc for balance.

For a hybrid of skills, the Palladin is a good easy choice for running around beating on things, magical skills (holy bolt, for example), and those neat auras for yourself (holy freeze/fire) or the party.

My next choice would be a Druid. Although you cannot cast any of the elemental skill spells while transformed as a wolf/bear, though... I usually cast a spell (like cyclone armor) and then convert to the animal form. A spirit choice is very helpful to have around for your party, at all times. Even not transformed and just a spellcaster, you're still pretty strong to beat on things.

Next choice would be a Necromancer. You could go the poison/bone route, and beat up on things. Or you could go for more of a zookeeper and have a bunch of skeletons and revives and cast away with your curses while you sit back and watch. many choices here.

The barbarian does have some party shouts, and the amazon does have a few party aids like inner sight, but mostly they're straight melee.

The Sorc is pretty powerful in her spells, but cannot carry much in stronger equipment so cannot do much/any melee. I hear that she's very good at magic find runs, though.

I've never played the Assassin - I just didn't like the looks of any of her builds.
